Sad Story Of Patients Sleeping On Balconies, Pavements Of Hospital

0

A section of Kisumu residents are protesting the poor state of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Photos splashed on social media by enraged residents show patients sleeping on the pavements and balconies of the hospital.

“The wards are congested, no care for those who need serious attention. The wards are not cleaned and we even tried reaching them but they were not responsive,” Austine who had a patient at the hospital told Ghetto Radio News.

Austine also claims that the nurses at the hospital are inhumane and are mistreating patients.

Sources at the hospital also claim that those sleeping on the balconies are recovered patients who are being detained over hospital bills.

Kisumu County Government Director of Communications John Oywa has however explained that the overwhelming number of patients at the hospital is as a result of the medical surgery camp conducted last week.

“The situation has been aggravated by the just concluded free orthopedic surgery conducted by 20 volunteer surgeons and the sudden increase in the number of general patients.

“We regret the situation but promise that all is being done to improve it. We however wish to appeal that it should not be dramatized, politicized, or sensationalized,” Oywa said.

Kisumu County is planning to increase the JOOTRH bed capacity from 550 to 850.

“We regret the situation but promise that all is being done to improve it. We however wish to appeal that it should not be dramatized, politicized, or sensationalized.”
