Safari 7s returns to the RFUEA Grounds

The Kenya Rugby Union has officially launched and confirmed the dates for 25th edition of the Safari 7s.

The annual 7s rugby tournament is slated for the 14th to 16th October at the RFUEA Grounds along Ngong road in Nairobi.

Safari 7s is to make a comeback after a two year hiatus that saw the 2020 event not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The chairman of the rugby union Oduor Gangla while launching the tournament has invited rugby fans from around the country to turn up and enjoy the much anticipated high-octane event.

“I’m very excited and looking forward to a very competitive Safari 7s.  I’m looking forward to Kenyans turning up in large numbers to celebrate life and enjoy rugby,” says Gangla.

The event will consist of three categories that is the age grade, veteran and senior men and women.So far 12 men teams and 6 women teams have been included in the line up of the mixed event.

Gangla mentions that they have a number of partners that will be announced progressively towards the day of the tournament.

KRU Vice Chairman Moses Ndale, who doubles up as the Safari Sevens Organizing Committee Chairman added, “We want to request the fans to show up in numbers for a great weekend of rugby. We will be revealing the participating teams and ticketing details in subsequent communications.”

The Safari 7s was played every year at the RFUEA GRound since its inception 1996 until 2010 before moving to the Nyayo National Stadium for the 2011 and 2012 editions.

It would shift to the Moi International Sports Center between 2013 and 2016 and moving back to the RFUEA Ground for the 2018 and 2019 editions after not being played in 2017.

Ticket sales will start on the 23rd September and will be available online.
