Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has promised to help Toi market traders whose businesses were brought down by the Sunday inferno rebuild their stalls.

Sakaja says that while helping traders rebuild, he will also ensure that access roads are created at different points of the market to avert future crises.

“Traders at Toi Market have lost so much after last night’s inferno. Poleni sana,” said Sakaja.

“Glad that we have also agreed on creating access throughout the market as we rebuild. This will help emergency vehicles move easier when needed,” he stated.

Food Support

The governor has in the meantime offered material and food support to the traders as they await to start rebuilding.

“We have assessed the damage and we will help you rebuild. In the meantime we have organised food and material support.”

More than 2,000 traders were affected in the fire that razed down a large part of the market.

A section of the traders suspect arsonists to have been behind the inferno.

The traders who spoke to Ghetto Radio on Sunday claim that arsonists must have gotten help from the guards at the market since the guards went missing immediately after the inferno.
