Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja now wants the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) to be summoned at the senate over the stalled process of decongesting the city.

Sakaja wants the NMS to give a timeline on when the Green park Matatu terminus will be opened.

“Mr. Speaker Sir, I rise pursuant to standing order 48 (1) to seek a statement from the Chairperson, Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation on the progress made on decongestion of the city and implementation of the mass transit system plan in Nairobi City County,” said Sakaja.

The senator says that the delay in the opening of the terminus has seen many Nairobi residents stuck for many hours in traffic jams

“In this statement, the committee should address the following. Number one, give a report on the measures taken by Nairobi Metropolitan Services before the construction of the Green Park Matatu Terminus and the costs of the project,” he said.

“Give a time frame of when the Green Park Matatu terminus will officially be opened and ready for use,” said the Senator.

Sakaja also wants NMS to give a report on the progress made towards compensation of traders and business people who were displaced during the construction of the terminus.

”Provide a report on the progress made towards compensation of the traders and business people who were displaced to give way for the construction of the Green Park Matatu Terminus,” he stated.

The NMS has so far conducted two test runs on the Green Park Terminus but has not yet declared when it will be opened.
