Salonists and Barbershop attendants in Kibera slums have opposed the government’s move to increase the price of cosmetic goods.

Gacivith Kayugurah a barber in Kibera says that the move will close down most of their businesses.

Kayugurah says that high prices on the goods will drive customers from their businesses hence shutting them down.

“We are not happy with the government’s move to increase the price of cosmetics because the move will affect our businesses.

New prices unaffordable

“Majority of our customers will not afford the price of our services that we provide to them. When they increase the price of cosmetics then we will have to increase the price of shaving and other services,” said Kayugirah.

According to Kayugirah the move will also push away hustlers who are struggling to survive by setting up small businesses.

“The government that said will support us is now pointing a knife on us the hustlers. Like for me, I started this business two years ago but the government wants to kill it. I was expecting that it will promote us but it seems that it has changed its mind. The government should come up with different ways of raising money,” he concluded.

The government should consider our beauty shops in the slums too like our king’s barbershop
