Six children have been rescued from the streets today morning following a crackdown conducted in Kibera slums by Makina Nyumba Kumi Chairman Samwel Nyamunda.
Nyamunda says that the six children had left their homes and had turned into beggars on the streets.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Nyamunda stated that those rescued are children between class five and form one.
“On today’s crackdown we have managed to arrest six children but majority escaped since I was alone. One of the children is in class eight, one in class seven the other one in class five and one in form one.
According to Nyamunda these children use the money they get on the streets to buy drugs. He says that some even turn into crime.
“Most of these children beg for money along Ngong Road and other major super highways money which they in turn use to buy drugs from Makina, Gatwekera and Forty two,” said Nyamunda.

Parents sending children to beg
After being probed, some of the children accused their parents of sending their children to go beg on the streets.
Nyamunda says that the kids claimed that it is food that they get from the streets that is being used to buy food in the houses.
” Wengine wesema kuwa wazazi wamewatuma.kuomba Pesa Kwa barabara wapate unga na wasipopata wasirejee nyumbani,” he added
This happens few days after National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug abuse Nacada reported that the number of children abusing drugs has increased.
According the NACADA Friday’s report little children as from age six are abusing drugs unlike before were by the minimal age was 11.
