Shaffie Demands Ksh. 21 Million Compensation Over Wrongful Dismissal
By Steve Osaka
Former Homeboyz presenter Shaffie Weru is now suing the Radio Africa Group owned station demanding Ksh. 21 Million for wrongful dismissal.
The disgraced media personality was shown the door over ‘inappropriate and insensitive comments’ he made during his breakfast show ‘The Lift Off’ which was suspended for six months by the media regulating body Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK).
His other players in the show Dj Joe Mfalme and Neville were also handed the axe.
Through a letter from the MMA Advocates, Shaffie states that he has worked diligently for over 18 years while holding various positions within the company.
He further cites the several media personality awards he earned during his tenure which led to his promotion at the organization.
At the time of his dismissal, he was the Programs Controller at Homeboyz Radio taking home a Gross Salary of Ksh. 682,500.
Shaffie and his gang had been earlier suspended for two weeks over the ‘insensitive remark’ which took place on the morning of 25th March 2021.
The suspension was to pave way for investigations into the conduct of the presenters.
The trio however received the shock of their lives on the night of March 27th concerning their eventual sacking from the media house.
Shaffie states that he was not accorded a fair hearing upon termination of his contract which falls short of the constitution laws of employment.
From the letter if his demands are not met within seven days, legal action will be taken to compel the station to award him the Ksh. 21 Million he is seeking.
