Mombasa businessman and politician Suleiman Shahbal has resigned from the Jubilee Party.
The politician who has expressed interest in running for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat through the Orange Democratic Movement party submitted his resignation letter dated 6th July, 2020.
“I have, today, officially resigned from the Jubilee Party. This follows my announcement to join the ODM party. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Jubilee Party leadership for the support offered to me throughout my membership.
I will further put my efforts in ensuring the merger between Jubilee and ODM party is realized. The Handshake spirit is what we all need,” said Shahbal.
Shahbal who was an ODM member before joining Jubilee in 2013 will be battling it out with Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir for the ODM ticket.
Shahbal expressed his interest to run for Mombasa governor on an ODM ticket in June this year.
He also expressed his support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga saying that ‘Baba” had suffered enough for the country and it was time to give him a chance to lead.
“In exercise of my constitution and legal rights to belong to a political party of my choice by the law through section 14 of the Political Parties Acts, 2011, I wish to resign as a member of Jubilee Party,” read Shahbal’s resignation letter.
