Nairobi City Stars delivered a significant blow to Gor Mahia’s aspirations of winning the league title with a surprising 2-1 victory on Thursday at Dandora Stadium.

This unexpected result marks a crucial turning point for City Stars, who have been navigating a challenging season, while simultaneously posing a considerable setback for Gor Mahia in their pursuit of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League crown.

The match was a lively affair that saw Nairobi City Stars secure the win courtesy of goals from Hansel Ochieng and Vincent Owino. Benson Omalla managed to pull one goal back for Gor Mahia.

This triumph holds particular significance for City Stars as it breaks a long spell of 23 matches without consecutive wins. Their last instance of back-to-back victories occurred in October and November of the previous year against the same opponent, Gor Mahia, and Shabana FC.

Following this result, Nairobi City Stars have climbed to 17th position in the league standings, accumulating a total of 30 points. Meanwhile, Gor Mahia remain in third place with 53 points, now trailing league leaders Kenya Police, who possess 58 points, by a margin of five points.

However, Gor Mahia still have one outstanding game yet to be played, offering a glimmer of hope in their title chase.

For Kariobangi Sharks, this hard-fought victory propels them to 13th place in the league table with a total of 33 points. Under the guidance of Coach William Muluya, the team is focused on securing their position in the top tier of Kenyan football, and with only three matches remaining in the season, their hopes of survival have been bolstered by this crucial win.
