News about the death of Mathare United staunch fan Simple Simon may have hit the headlines on Tuesday, but the football enthusiast apparently died more than one week ago, Ghetto Radio has discovered.
Simple Simon’s friend Rama Ibrahim says that the deceased’s body lay in the morgue for that long because no one was aware of his death.
At the time of his death, Simple Simon was homeless. Rama says that before his death, Simple Simon had been admitted at the Mama Lucy Children’s Hospital for two weeks but was later discharged.
“I work in town and Simon always came to me from time to time for support. When I had something small, I would share with him,” said Rama.
Rama says that the last time he saw Simple Simon was when he went to give him clothes he had promised him since he had none.
“But after not seeing him for a while I started inquiring about him, it was only confirmed yesterday that he had long passed and nobody knew about his death,” he said.
Simple Simon has been a staunch supporter of Mathare United Football club.
During an interview with Ghetto Radio’s OffSide team, Simple Simon revealed that he and his friend Rama had been offered money by the Sofapaka club to ditch Mathare United.
They however turned the offer down saying that their loyalty was with Bob Munro who is also the founder of Mathare Youth Sports Association popularly known as MYSA.
His body is currently lying at the City Mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are ongoing and a committee led by King Lion Sounds owner Pupa Charle met on Wednesday to chat the way forward.
According to the committee they are hoping to lay him to rest before the national elections scheduled for the 9th of August.
