‘SLUM DERBY’ HIGHLIGHTS SUPER EIGHT ROUND SIX

0 877

Mathare Flames entertain Metro Sports in a Super Eight Premier League match at Drive Inn grounds as round six gets underway this Sunday 14th April across Nairobi County.

In what is expected to be a thrilling duel between neighborhood adversaries, all is set for the highly anticipated battle of Mathare North’s finest grass-root teams in the competition.

Mathare Flames, formerly Zamalek have won two, drawn once and lost two of their opening five games and sit 8th on the 16 team log with 7 points, one behind Metro who lie 6th place.

Under coach Julius Mitivo, Mathare will be looking for their first league win over Metro Sports after drawing 0-0 in the first and return legs last season.

Having lost 2-1 away against MASA in their last outing, Mathare’s confidence dipped and they will be aiming to revive it by winning the highly billed clash christened ‘Slum Derby’.

“It’s a big match for the teams and the community and we know what to expect; the players know each other well but for us, nothing other than a win will do.” Mathare coach Mitivo said.

Metro’s unbeaten start to the new campaign was wiped out in a 1-0 loss to Jericho last time out having won two and drawn two.

Former AFC Leopards coach Ezekiel Akwana’s return to Metro is expected to be a confidence boost to the side as they hope to bounce back to winning ways.

“The last game we were unlucky but we have learned from our mistake and we are confident we can recover in the next match. It’s a big game for us, everyone is looking forward to it.” Metro captain Peter Ambetsa said ahead of the tie.

After back to back wins over Githurai All-Stars and Metro, defending champs Jericho All Stars (12 points) welcome winless Kawangware United (3 points) at Camp Toyoyo grounds seeking a win to stretch their lead at the top.

Third-place NYSA (10 points), fresh from stinging Meltah Kabiria 4-1, will be away tackling new boys Huruma Kona (6) at Huruma grounds.

At Kabete Campus grounds, TUK (3) will be searching for their second win of the season when they host 11th placed MASA (6).
