Nairobi Metropolitan Services has demolished small scale traders’ structures at a land along Mfangano street in the Nairobi CBD.
Traders led by Bunge la Mwanachi Chairman Johnmark Ababu say that they were not given notice to vacate the property.
“They came at night and demolished our structures with goods inside without a notice. We support NMS but the law must be followed by the inspectorate team led by William Kangogo came and destroyed everything.. is that empowerment we are talking about?” Ababu lamented.
They have now called on NMS boss Major General Mohammed Badi to ensure that the developer compensates traders before any development in the land.
“The law is clear we must be compensated and we must thank NMS chief of staff Peter Kariuki for responding quickly to our plea by stopping any development until we are sorted out,” they said.
‘‘Please Rais Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Amollo Odinga there is director here at NMS Rachael Wanjiku she is the one who gave these orders even without consulting her bosses. We want to be told her stake at NMS that prohibits her from following the law, ‘’they added.
NMS is yet to respond officially to the matter.
