Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has told off Murang’a leaders threatening to cut off Ndakaini Dam water saying Nairobi County has exclusive rights over the water from Ndakaini.
Speaking during the opening of the Agricultural Show today, Sonko says the county government compensated all Murang’a residents affected by the construction of Ndakaini dam that Nairobi City County has a title deed for the dam.
According to Sonko Ndakaini Dam is only a storage facility adding that he will not pay a single penny to Murang’a County as it is being pushed by politicians.
He further made it clear that the source for Ndakaini dam water is Aberdare ranges in Nyandarua county and river Chania of Nyeri .
Sonko asked president Uhuru Kenyatta and other leaders from mount Kenya to move with speed and intervene over the on-going water woes in Muranga.
Meanwhile Muranga county assembly is currently in a process of passing bill that will see Nairobi city county pay Muranga county government 40% of Ndakaini dam water.
The group is being led by governor Mwangi Wa Iria.
