Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has doubled the parking fees in the CBD from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 400 a move that is set to take effect tomorrow, Wednesday 4th.
According to Parking Director Tom Tinega Kijabe street will be charged the same as CBD and that the new fees have already been passed by the county assembly in the finance bill 2019 as stipulated in the law.
‘‘In order to reduce congestion in CBD, we have increased parking fees from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 400 and this will be marked as Zone A..whereas Zone B will include all commercial centres like community ,Upper hill,Ngara, Eastleigh,Industrial Area ,Yaya Centre, Allsops and these areas we shall charge Ksh. 200.’’ Tinega said.
In the notice non-matatu buses will be paying 1000 shillings when parking at the central businesss district CBD.
Governor Mike Sonko when campaigning promised to reduce parking fees from 300 shillings to 150 but later changed tune immediately he was elected.
