Sonko makes a sudden U-turn over free public toilets

Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has revoked his decision to make public toilets free saying he was mistakenly understood.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms by director of communications office of the governor, Sonko says Sonko only needs sanity and proper service delivery by the toilet operators.

This comes a day after the department of environment Nairobi county government issued a vacation notice to all the operators demanding their immediate exit.

Sonko however, says he will ensure the operators practices proper cleanliness to ensure the toilets are free from the toilets.

Yesterday Sonko  issued a notice to all those operating the 64 public toilets in the county  to vacate them immediately.

A letter from environment department addressed to the Toilet Operators Association indicates that the county government will assume full management of all public toilets.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio the association’s chairman Tom Makale says they have recieved the letters and they will issue their official position on the matter.

They accused  governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko of aiming to kill their business yet the county does not have the capacity to provide the same services as they do including the hygiene in those public toilets.

Last week Sonko warned the operators that  he will soon repossess the toilets for free service following the constant management wrangles among the operators.

According to Sonko his government will hire a private firm to clean the toilets and their maintenance.
