Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has suspended arrests by Nairobi County Inspectorate following the Judiciary’s decision to scale down its operations due to Coronavirus.
Sonko says that the judiciary’s suspension of court proceedings will mean that suspects are not arraigned within 24 hours which will be in contravention of the law.
“I have suspended with immediate effect all the arrests by the Nairobi City County Government Inspectorate and Enforcement until further notice,” said Sonko in a statement.
Sonko further stated that Kanjo’s norm of holding suspects in vehicles for long periods contravenes WHO Guidelines on exposure to COVID-19.
“However these departments shall remain vigilant to ensure that all county laws are adhered to the latter,” said Sonko.
