SOYA AWARDS RECEIVES A BOOST OF SH 3 MILLION

This year’s SOYA Awards has received a boost of Ksh 3 million from three organisations as the annual event draws to a close on Thursday January 19 2017.

The 13th edition of the Safaricom Sports Personality of the year announced a Sh 2.5 million sponsorship from the Kenya Tourism Board (sh 1.5 million) and National Social Security Fund (Sh 1 million).

Chairman of the SOYA panel Watson Karuma paid tribute to the partners saying it was apart of the CSR and sponsorship programs as it inspires sports personalities towards greatness.

“When one is motivated,they give their best and in the long run reap the benefits of their perseverance and commitment towards excelling in sports.” Noted Karuma.

Karuma was speaking at the cheque handover ceremony held at the Laico Regency on Wednesday.

Among the nominees for this year’s gala are the Harambee starlets who earned the respect of the country having conveyed a series of stellar perfomances in the 2016 season.

The National women’s team made history qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time ever.They also finished fourth in the COTIF tournament in Spain as well as emerging second in the CECAFA tourney held in Uganda.

Representing the CEO,KTB’s head of corprate Wausi Walya also acknowledged the sportspersonality for the great role they play in branding Kenya.

“Everytime the country wins, we get to see the hosting of our national flag and hear the tune of our national anthem.”

“Symbols that identify us as a people who rule the sporting field especially in the athletes arena.And this rekindles the Kenyan spirit to do great and excel through sports”.

“It is clear that our sportsmen and women really need to be celebrated.”

Vivienne TAA, a fashion house based in Nairobi has also parnered with SOYA to dress selected nominees and guests taking part in this year’s event.

Vivienne TAA presented SOYA with a cheque of  sh 0.5 million.

The winner of the SOYA Awards will walk away with sh 1 million which not only serves to recgnize theior selflessness towards excelling in sports but also inspires others to work towards greatness by shining their light and that ofg Kenya through great performance in their various sporting fields.

Other sponsors of this year’s gala include Safaricon Limited ,Lotto foundation ,Supersports and Multichoice Kenya,Communications Authority of Kenya (CA),National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF),Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC).
