State to begin mass production of Face masks to be sold at Ksh.20
The government is set to begin the mass production of face masks which will be sold at Ksh.20 or as low as Ksh.5
Industrialisation CS Betty Maina on Friday said already more than one million masks had been manufactured and are set to be distributed to Tuk Tuk, Boda Boda and Matatu operators.
“Form the indication we have received from the manufactures and the retailers and based on the volume expected, we don’t expect any of these masks available for sale to sell for more than Sh20,I am sure people will be able to be very innovative about it and I am certain some prices could even come as low as Sh5.” she said
The CS also advised Kenyans to avoid buying the thin layered masks that are currently being sold in most parts of Nairobi. According to the CS, Kenyans should ensure that they buy the three ply masks which have been approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)
“When you go out to buy ensure it has got three layers. There is one inner layer, the outer layer and the darker part for gathering dust but there will be a filter inside it so that medical personnel can wear and also all of us can wear,” she said.
On Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe advised Boda Boda, Tuk Tuk and Matatu operators and their passengers to put on masks in order to ensure their safety against the novel Covid-19.
