Appearing on Ghetto radio’s morning show, Ras Banda shares his journey from being raised in a staunch Christian family to joining the Rastafari Community.

Asked whether Rastafari is a religion he quickly disagrees saying Rastafari is a way of life.

Life In A Christian Family

Ras Banda says he was raised in a Christian family with both his father and grandfather reverends

’Niligrow up kwa familia tulienda Sunday school kila Sunday  but na give thanks I learnt a lot  kwa kanisa ‘’narrated Banda

Further to that He appreciates that His parents laid a good foundation for him at an early age.

Deviating  To Rastafari

While in class 7 ,Ras Banda says he developed  an interest in listening to Joseph Hill  who he says  became  a real inspiration to join the Rastafarian movement

He whoever says he respected the fact that he was living under his father’s roof,

’When in form 2 that’s when the journey to deviate to Rastafarian began , though I had to respect the fact that I was under my father’s roof”

He embarked on a journey to teach his father about the Rastafarian faith which he says was not an easy task

‘’I started introducing my father to deep reggae music   which he enjoyed but felt the artists should have used the same energy to praise Jesus Christ ‘’

He says His father unfortunately died while  He was still  young, adding that  they never had any disagreements despite him knowing  He was slowly transitioning to Rastafari.

Christianity and Rastafari

He says Rastafarians worship on Saturday while Christians worship on Sunday adding that another notable difference is the fact that most Rastafari have dreadlocks.

Notably he says Rastafari accept much of the bible though they believe the bibles message and interpretation has been corrupted over time.

Rasta association

Ras Banda says his relations are built on love and respect which are the same core values He is instilling to his children.

Additionally He says he never smokes marijuana when his kids are present

’Mtoi hawezi hold  meditation na akismoke hiyo kitu itamlead vibaya the same way huwezi patia mtoi pombe till at an older age’’

He defines weed as a mystical plant  adding that guys below 25yrs should not partake Marijuana.
