A suspect is cooling his heels in police custody after officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered a lorry stolen from a garage in Karen, Nairobi.
According to DCI, 30-year-old Simam Mwangi was apprehended in Thika on Sunday and later led officers to a garage where the truck was being modified to conceal its original identity.

The police intimated that the search for the vehicle kicked in after its theft was reported at Kiamaciri Police Station by the manager of Kanini Haraka Enterprises Ltd, indicating that the KDK 583G Mitsubishi Fuso was stolen between Kenol and Makutano and its tracker disabled.

The lorry, which was stolen on April 1, was found to have been fitted with fake insurance and registration plates.
“Another set of registration plates no. KCT 446R was already being used on the vehicle,” said DCI.
Mwangi is set to be arraigned today, Monday, April 15.
