Stop Ferrying Passengers Illegally Using  Panya Routes;  Matatu Owners Warn Operators

Matatu Owners Association MOA  has warned matatu operators who are still using  Panya routes to dodge roadblocks and ferry passengers in and outside Nairobi.

According to the MOA chairman Simon Kimutai , the association has received reports that there are some rogue operators who have defied the government directive and are still facilitating movement of people from and in Nairobi calling on the police to be more vigilant.

‘‘Nobody can oppose this. We are backing the government and we want to ask all our members to ensure the move is restricted as directed. Those operators who are still sneaking people out of the border are committing a crime and that is unacceptable they should be arrested,’’ Kimutai said

He further asked all matatu operators to only pick passengers who are wearing masks saying the move will ensure Kenyans comply with the same directive to avoid the spread of Covid 19.

‘‘We understand that putting on mask is an individual responsibility but for matatus, we must help the government to ensure it is we expect Matatus to only pick those with masks.’’ He added.
