Storm In Public Meetings As Residents Oppose Nairobi Takeover, Want Sonko Impeached

The National Government’s move to take over some functions of the Nairobi County has been met by strong opposition from a section of residents in Starehe Sub County.

The residents, who attended the public participation at the Kariokor Social Hall, claim that the takeover process was not done in a proper manner.

Majority of the participants who gave their views were of the opinion that instead of the takeover by the national government and proposed that Governor Mike Sonko be impeached if he is not performing.

They also accused the national government of double standards by saving Sonko from impeachment while at the same time claiming to save Nairobi.

While at the meeting some residents chose to sign a petition that was going round that proposed that the takeover be halted.

“And this is why we have also come up with a petition and we are seeking signatures to stop this take over from happening,” said a resident who attended the meeting.

They also expressed lack of trust with the National Government in the takeover claiming that they will be unable to properly address their grievances.

“Now if the government is claiming to save Nairobi, why did they stop the impeachment from happening since we all agree that Sonko is the problem?” posed another resident.

The government today held public participation meetings in various sub counties withing Nairobi County to discuss the takeover.
