Student Arrested For Spreading False Coronavirus Information


Police have arrested a 23 year old student for allegedly publishing misleading and alarming information on Coronavirus.

Elijah Muthui Kitonyo a student at the Kenya Institute of Medical Training on March 13th posted a tweet claiming to know the said lady who tested positive to Coronavirus.

“The government lied to us… The said lady is called Millicent Musau and she came yesterday from Rome boarded in this plane… Am a staff at KQ and i know what happened… Guys they are lying to us,” read the tweet.

The DCI says that Kitonyo will be charged with publishing false information  according to cyber Crimes Act of 2018.

“A person who knowingly publishes information that is false in print, broadcast, data or over a computer system, that is calculated or results in panic, chaos, or violence among citizens of the Republic, or which is likely to discredit the reputation of a person, ” reads the act.

The DCI further urged  members of the public to be responsible and to desist from authoring, publishing or sharing unconfirmed information that may cause panic and anxiety.
