STUDENTS THREATENS TO PROTEST INTENDED ABOLISHMENT OF HELB LOAN

University Students have demanded President William Ruto to withdraw his recent remarks on intended abolishment of Higher Education Loan Boad(HELB).

Daniel Moruri alias Baba Zuri,Kenya University Student Organisation (KUSO)Nairobi regional coordinator said that office of president should intead increase the funding and fully involve the students on matters that affects them.

“We demand the president to withdraw his remarks,aboling HELB will impede the academic progress of most students, so students must be fully involved prior to the implementation.” Moruri said.

The student leadership organ also threatened to hold a country wide street protests against the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu for what they termed as abdication of duties,and making maing decisions that will dent the quality of education offered in learning institutions.

“Its high time Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to understand his job description well,he must not make decisions that exposes his incompetence,we will not allow any thing short of the current allocation.” He added.

President William Ruto on his New Year speech stated that government will restructure HELB to absorb the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) funding and also increase the disbursement to cover non- tuition costs.
