The Competition Authority of Kenya has ordered Cleanshelf Supermarkets to contact and refund all the consumers who bought hand sanitizers at hiked prices on Sunday.
In a statement CAK ordered the supermarket to submit evidence of refund by 26th of March 2020.
Cleanshelf Supermarket allegedly sold the 500 Ml of Tropikal brand of hand sanitizers at Ksh. 1000 instead of the normal Ksh. 800.
The supermarket reportedly sold 960 pieces of the hand sanitizer on the same day.
“Cleanshelf supermarkets normally retails the specific hand sanitizers at Ksh. 800. However the authority has determined that the retailer on 15th March 2020 sold the same batch of product to consumers at varying amounts above Ksh. 800 including Ksh. 1000 with the prices increasing within hours,” read the statement.
The authority has further appreciated members of the public who availed the necessary information for investigations.
“It is on this basis that we are encouraging persons with information relating to the above contravention to submit the same to the authority whose offices are located at Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme Block D,” further read the statement.
