Supreme Court To Issue Ruling On Sonko Impeachment Today

The Supreme Court is set to give a judgement on former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s impeachment today at 4 pm.

The judgement will come just a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission cleared Sonko to vie for the Mombasa Governor’s seat.

“The registrar of the Supreme Court, Hon Letizia Wachira, has today issued a notice informing that the judgment of the above petition that is before the Supreme Court of Kenya Hon. Mike Mbuvi Sonko versus The Clerk, County Assembly of Nairobi City and 11 others will be delivered at 4:00 pm,” reads a communique from the Supreme Court.

Sonko was cleared to vie after the High Court in Mombasa ordered IEBC to clear him pending the Supreme Court ruling.

“I thank the people of Mombasa County for standing with me throughout this whole process. This is already a win for me,” said Sonko after the ruling.

“I am urging the youth who do not have jobs that they should start celebrating. Employees of the Mombasa County who have not been paid for three months, I will be paying you on the 25th of every month,” he said.

Sonko blamed his battles on his enemies who wanted to frustrate his candidature.
