Nairobi County Health Committee Chairman Maurice Ochieng’  is accusing section of  County Public Health Officials of incompetence and corruption.

According to health committee  most of the PHOs have  abandoned their duties and when held accountable they fabricate stories  malign and defame no nonsense  MCAs.

The committee has  called on governor Johnson  Sakaja to reign on rogue public health  officials issuing food handling certificates in their private clinics as well as those collecting “protection fees’’ from hotel owners.

‘‘Nairobi County Assembly has been firm in ensuring that there is total compliance but I was shocked to see the same MCAs being attacked by workers lobby groups in the name of interference…as a house we are not  going to be intimidated by  these rogue and corrupt PHOs..Governor Sakaja must move with speed and bring sanity in this department. Recently we saw hotel kiosk in CBD selling harmful food to Nairobi residents  no action has been taken against County PHOs responsible  to date.’’ He told Ghetto Radio News on phone.

‘‘We have a report passed by  this assembly recommending removal of this rogue officials including one deputy director Margret Sunguti  I don’t why they are still in office.’’ he added.

Interference Claim

Meanwhile Nairobi Public Health Chief Officer Tom Nyakaba while speaking with Nation denied receiving any complaints from his officers over interference from the MCAs.

“I am not aware of those allegations. No officer has reported of any harassment or interference from any quota. But my office will start investigations on the matter and will revert with the correct position. The investigation team will visit the mentioned restaurants to get facts. Because have not received any formal complaints from the said premises,” Nyakaba said.
