Tapio wins,despite puncture


tapioTapio Laukannen overcame daunting rear transmission scare to be declared the ultimate Champion in an outing that saw Manvir Baryan record his best performance ever in the KNRC glorious outing.

Tapio’s driving skills were unmatched from the start as he commanded the lead by one second ahead of Jaspreet Chatthe at CS 1 Ilula stage with his teammate Manvir Baryan of Multiple racing finishing 52seconds behind Tapio navigated by Drew Sturrock in a Ford Fiesta.

“I had two straight punctures and had to change the rear transmission completely, we had to devise a different game plan and we are delighted with the results”, said a beaming Tapio.

Manvir Baryan was delighted with the second position finish in Eldoret.

Rajbir Rai who finished third will be looking forward to improving on his performance as the remaining two outings beckons.

“This a great year for me and my navigator, and honesty we are anticipating the best in the rally and it will be a defining moment for me”, said Rajbir.

Ugandan Walubi Kapher navigated by Susan Kalema finished the rally on the 15 position

“We gave our best from stage one and we are glad we finished the rally well, rallying in Kenya is very tough and we look forward to our second outing here”, said Walubi.

Six times champion Ian Duncan who was powering a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution aiming to stun other drivers was one of the casualties as well as Jaspreet Chatthe who bowed out, as drama characterised the weekend’s showdown.

Natasha Tundo who was navigated by Chantal Louis Young in the Rally Chix Subaru N10 during the outing was delighted with her consistency this season.

“We are glad we made it home and our next focus will be to improve our rankings in division three, said Tash Tundo.

Several high tech machines added zest in the event. The battle of engines had classic Ford Escorts and Porsches, 2WD Toyotas, Group N Mitsubishi Evolutions and Subaru’s, R4s and Ford Fiesta R5s.

As the drivers focus on the next outing, it will be a big test for Ian Duncan, Jaspreet Chatthe and Baldev Chager who will be seeking revenge on missed opportunities.
