Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja on Thursday told the inquest that she never approved of the relationship between her daughter, the late Tecra Muigai, and Omari Lali.
Karanja, while being cross-examined by Lali’s lawyer, said that it was not normal in a relationship for a relatively older man to receive huge amounts of money from a young girl.
She told the inquest that Lali was greedy, while denying allegations that she controlled her daughter,
The emotional mother confessed that she accorded her daughter the freedom she deserved and allowed her to live her life.
“For us it was not normal…a child to transfer money to a 60-year-old man, that’s not normal,” she stated.
“She knew what was she was doing was wrong…I did not approve of that relationship…It was not about the looks, you are not Jehova to know who looks good.”
Tecra’s brother was also recalled to the dock and told the court he was shocked when he met Lali, saying even he disapproved of the relationship.
Lali the ‘Prophet’

He further told inquest that Tecra told him that Lali was a prophet and could foretell future events .
“If I were to advise her then, I’d have discouraged her from that relationship…my parents never approved that relationship…I was sent to go to Lamu to tell her to go back home but she declined,” he said.
He told the court that his sister was very defensive and that a lot changed in her life after she started going out with Lali.

He added that Tecra wanted the family to approve of the relationship, and would tell them that she would still be with Lali their blessings.
“She used to tell us that Lali was a prophet and not a normal man,” he told the court.
The matter was adjourned to December 6, 2023 when Lali is expected to testify.
