Tharaka Nithi Leaders Threaten To Move To Court Over Census Results

A section of Tharaka Nithi leaders led by the county governor Muthomi Njuki has vowed to move to the High court to seek review or repeat of the county enumeration exercise.

Muthomi said that 2009 census revealed the county had a population of 365,330 with a slight growth of 27,847 which is inaccurate growth of 10 years time.

The governor also added that the census results differed with the IEBC records that showed that the county had 213,154 registered voters in 2017.

“With a population of 393,177, the number of voters is higher than the number of children which is impossible as children are always the majority,” he stated.

MP Patrick Munene who was among the panel said that the census manipulation might be in favour with politics of BBI.

He stated that given the wrong figures will disadvantage the tax payers of Tharaka Nithi in terms of resource and revenue allocation and even merging the county after the pass of BBI.
