Atleast 40 drivers will be put to a vigorous test as Western Kenya Motor Club hosts KNRC KCB Rally in Eldoret on Saturday, October 8 2016.
KCB Director Marketing and Communications Angela Mwirigi said the outing will test the nerve and the skills of the drivers “especially at the world-famous Fluorspar stage and the hilly terrain,one of the toughest the country has to offer”.
On the other hand former navigator Abdul Sidi said “all is set for the drivers to prove their mettle behind the wheels and win important seeding points in the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC).”
With a difference in four points between the first and the second positioned competitors there is still 50 points to be scored in the two remaining events of the championship.
Tapio Laukannen is sitting at the top with 104 points whereas Jaspreet Chatthe who is also the African Rally champion lying second on 100 points.
The total milage for the 6th round of the KCB rally will be 258km,147km will be competitive out of which nearly 60 percent will be held on closed and private roads.
“That is where we are heading now because of safety issues” said Francis Gitau who is the clerk of course of the event.
Defending champion Leonardo Varese who is looking to a win will be competing against Local drivers Erick Bengi and Sammy Nyorri who has upgraded his Toyota RunX ahead of the outing.
The 4 time 2 wheel drive (WD) championship Champion has however admitted that “it’s not going to be an easy rally” as he is facing pressure to keep his title.
“Defending a title for two years is not easy because everybody is after you.I know people are expecting alot from me and I am looking to a win”. Varese said.
He also expressed his concern over the terrain in Eldoret which he described as “hilly rocky and a tough place to race on”.But all in all let’s see.I am looking forward to the event”,he added.
Meanwhile Finland’s ace Tapio Laukannen and Manvir Bryan who has been in the UK are expected to jet in the country for the competition.
Tapio will be competing against Jasse Chatthe, Ian Duncan, Baldev Chagger and Onkai Rai.
Ugandan drivers Hassan Alwi and Duncan Mubiru are also expected to take part in the rally which will be flagged off at the Eldoret KCB branch.
