The ‘Ugly’ Penalty Moment
The incident unfolded as both Madueke and Jackson rushed to claim the ball from Malo Gusto, resulting to a tense 30-second exchange between the two players.
Thiago Silva intervened, managing to calm the situation momentarily as Jackson walked away.

However, the conflict escalated when Madueke remained adamant he was going to take the penalty, before captain Conor Gallagher urged the forward to hand over the ball to Palmer.
Despite Gallagher’s instructions, Madueke refused, prompting Gallagher to take matters into his own hands by forcibly retrieving the ball and handing it to Palmer.

While happy with the results Pochettino expressed disappointment around the penalty incident
“I’m so upset, very disappointed,” he told talkSPORT
“It’s so disappointing, I cannot accept this type of behaviour because we know that the penalty taker is Palmer, the players know and we cannot accept these type of things.
“I told them that this was the last time I want to see this type of behaviour on the pitch because after that kind of performance we cannot show a different way to think about the team.
“The penalty taker is Palmer. It’s Palmer who needs to decide. If he wants to give the penalty to someone else, it’s up to him.
