Westlands residents on Sunday scrambled for free beer along Waiyaki Way after a truck ferrying alcohol overturned.
The truck overturned near the Naivas round about at round midday.
Thirsty residents were spotted scrambling for the beers and stashing them into bags, some however carried the several bottles in their hands.
While some chose to drink at the accident scene, some money hungry residents chose to hawk the beers to motorists along Waiyaki Way.
Police had a difficult time to pull the crowd out of the scene even resorting to whips to get them out.
They were eventually edged out by tear gas.
