At a magnitude of 7.8, an earthquake has hit the southeast of Turkey and Northern Syria causing damage that would derail the two nations. This calamity has caused at least 4,372 deaths in Turkey and in Syria so far. Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan said he could not predict how much the death toll would rise as search and rescue efforts continued.
Many nations and organizations have stepped in to aid the countries affected. More than ten search teams have been dispatched by the European Union in search for survivors and dead bodies.
The US president, Joe Biden ordered the USAID and other federal government partners to look into the situation and help give solutions and aid to the most affected areas in the Turkey and Syria .
Save for the deaths, thousands more were injured and trapped in inaccessible areas as the quake destroyed and wiped-out sections of major cities in the regions filled with millions of people who have fled the civil war in Syria.
For a country like Syria which had already been wrecked by more than 11 years of civil war, this was a major setback in their journey to heal from consequences of the war.
Public figures such as Riyad Mahrez and Luka Modrić took their time to remember the two nations by writing well wishing messages on their social media handles.
This has been classified as the most powerful earthquake to ever hit Turkey and Syria in centuries.
