Three fishermen drowned yesterday and two others were rescued after their boat capsized at Nyagina Beach in Lake Victoria, Homabay County.
Search for the other two fishermen is still ongoing after one body was discovered at Mbita Causeway.
The boat which was carrying the five fishermen is reported to have capsized at around 1am on Sunday.
The five fishermen are said to have left Kombe beach while heading to Guna beach.
Upon reaching Mbita causeway, strong waves overturned their boat and as a result three of the five drowned and lost their lives.
According to Mbita Sub Police Commander Stanley Atavachi, one body has been retrieved as the search of the remaining two is still on.
“Five Fishermen left Kombe beach heading towards Guna beach, upon reaching Mbita cause way they encountered strong winds which forced the boat to capsize. Two managed to swim, while three drowned. The boat was found intact, Coast Guards and local divers are at the site and we have rescued one body,” said Atavachi.
Today’s incident comes barely two weeks after another boat tragedy claimed 10 lives in Homabay County.
