Three people died while four others escaped with critical injuries when a gold mine they were working on collapsed in Ugunja, Siaya County.
The three were preparing to leave the pit where they started working from 9pm only for the mine to cave in.
one of the miners on site stated that the critically injured have been rushed to the hospital.
“Three are dead, two were rushed to the hospital where one was in a critical condition. One has been taken for x-ray,” explained one of the miners.
The miners are calling on the government to help them with modern equipment to ply their trade.
They added that closure of those mines will not be a solution.
“Anything with advantages must have its disadvantages. Mines mostly do collapse during rainy sessions. We are requesting the government to assist us with modern equipment which we can use in these pits. This is where we earn our daily bread, “he added.
