Tight security at city hall as planned impeachment of Elachi flops
The planned impeachment of Nairobi County Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi has flopped after MCAs allied to Nairobi governor Mike Sonko failed to show up at the assembly precincts.
The group led by Chege Waithera who is said to be the sponsor of the motion to send Elachi home also did not show up fearing heavy presence of police.
There was tight security at both entrances with only sergeant at arms allowed to move in and out of the assembly.
Close sources in the assembly also whispered to Ghetto Radio News that the newly sworn in Clerk Edward Gichana has taken control of the assembly and is doing everything possible to remain in office and to avert further chaos.
‘‘Gichana was in today and he has ensured that there is tight security in and around Cityhall,’’ source revealed.
Earlier on Deputy Clerk Pauline Akuku issued an advisory to Elachi to ignore media reports suggesting that a Notice of Motion for her removal from office was issued by Jacob Ngwele.
“Accordingly, you should treat such information as rumors, gossips and media hype and continue executing your functions unhindered,” Akuku advised Elachi.
On 28th July 2020, Ngwele circulated a letter saying that a Notice of Motion for Elachis removal from office was issued a motion that was to be discussed today.
