Tough life for jobless man with ailing child, abandoned by wife

A young man from Nairobi’s Kiamaiko slums is struggling to raise his two year old son born with a strange illness.

Jarso Guyo says his wife of three years abandoned him after their son’s head started to swell abnormally affecting his growth and development.

He says his wife started accusing him of witchcraft stemming from his family hence their son’s illness and her eventual dissertation.

“She started calling my mum and my whole family witches, claiming that they are responsible for our baby’s ailment. But i would try to calm her down and tell her God will heal our baby, but she would hear none of it,” said Guyo.

At some point his wife’s anger was turned to the baby who on several occasions started abusing the baby.

Guyo’s wife would in many occasions leave the baby unattended to in the house forcing neighbours to call him from his hustle to get the baby.

But eventually when the fights and disagreements over the baby became too much, the woman left.

So without a job and a sick baby to take care of, Guyo’s life has become difficult. He is most of the times torn between leaving the baby unattended to in the house or getting out to hustle in order for them to get food.

“We have slept hungry so many times, today, i only have this boiled water to give him. But i trust that God will give a way for us,” he states.

He is now appealing to any well-wisher to come forward and assist him to take the baby to Kijabe Hospital where he has been advised he will get medical help.
