Transport CS on the Spot over Delays in Review of Matatu Covid-19 Restrictions

By Allan Otieno

Matatu Owners Association has called on Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia to move with speed and review of Covid-19 protocols in the matatu sector as was directed by the president.

Association’s Chairman Simon Kimutai says that he is perturbed that the Cs continues to ignore the directive despite the economic shrinkage they are undergoing.

“We can’t summon ourselves it is the CS to do so. But as we speak, they have told us nothing leaving us with only one option, engaging them through the media,” said Kimutai.

“Social distancing in Matatus is what is hurting us, they must review it because our operational costs are constant,” he told the media.

Meanwhile the association will not hike fares saying Kenyans are already stretched with Covid effects.

He has however faulted the government over new fuel prices.

“We have reached the ceiling hiking fares is not an option now because you also understand how Kenyans behave, we shall continue engaging the government over this matter,”Kimutai added.
