Trey Jayson sang a traditional Agikuyu song beating a host of artists to win ‘Kayole Finest’ singer in the just concluded ‘Kayole Talent Show’ on Saturday.
The soft spoken singer chose the Agikuyu song for its uniqueness.
The song advocates for youths to embrace their cultures.
“My song was a traditional song so I did a traditional song and it’s all about the Agikuyu culture and the way youths should embrace Agikuyu culture, for this day I chose Agikuyu cultural song because I knew it was unique and nobody could perform something like that” he asserted.
It wasn’t by fluke, Jayson has been performing traditional songs from the tender age of 4 years.
Roughly, he has a 15 year experience singing Agikuyu traditional songs.
One of the challenges he has encountered in his musical journey is lack of enough platforms to showcase his talent.
However, in the few events he has managed to perform he always gives his best.
“Kupata platforms place unaweza jiexpose unapata like platforms si mingi sana like place unaweza show off like your talent but in each and every time nimepata chance kama hii nawakilisha kuwakilisha” he explained.
Jayson further thanked his family for being supportive, some of his gigs have come through his family refferals.
Through their support Jayson has also traveled to South Africa where he staged a performance.
Thespian
Apart from singing, he is an accomplished actor working with a local production.
He has also had a stint selling mitumba clothes before his acting career took off.
Jayson further shared his gratitude for winning ‘Kayole Talent Search’ noting that it had elevated his profile.
“For me it’s a big thing because each and every day I try my best to take my music to another level” he summed up partly.
