Tusker youngster, Meja named January’s best

Tusker FC’s fast-rising star Henry Atola Meja has been named January Kenya Premier League Player of the Month at an award ceremony held at the Brewers’ Ruaraka Grounds on Thursday morning.

The young striker, who scored four goals and set up one in January saw off competition from Wazito’s Kevin Kimani to bag the prestigious award that comes with a monetary package and a personalized trophy.

Meja began the month with the lone goal that downed Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County. He then got a brace and an assist against Kariobangi Sharks a match his side won 4-2. His final contribution of the month was the winning goal against Zoo FC in a 2-1 triumph.

For emerging top in January, Meja, who has now cemented his place as Tusker’s first-choice striker walks home with Ksh. 50,000 and a personalized trophy courtesy of Betking Premier League.

He becomes the second recipient of the monthly gong. AFC Leopards’ hitman, Elvis Rupia walked away with the December award after seeing off competition from Erick Kapaito of Kariobangi Sharks and KCB’s Joseph Okoth.

The winners of the monthly awards are selected by a panel of top journalists under the BPL/SJAK umbrella.
