Two people drowned, six others were rescued after a boat capsized at in Lake Victoria near Pier beach in Homa Bay County.
A woman with a one month old child who drowned were among the sixteen people who were in the boat which was ferrying them from Pier Beach in Homabay to Nduru Beach In Mbita.
According to an eye witness it is alleged that the boat capsized due to heavy load it was carrying alongside the sixteen passengers.
Homabay town senior chief Joshua Ochogo confirmed that the boat was also carrying timbers and food stuffs which the passengers were taking home.
Some timbers and bananas have also been removed from the boat where it capsized.
Homabay County Director of Disaster Eliud Onyango further confirmed to journalists that the search for the remaining eight people will commence again tomorrow at 6am.
He said that the Kenya Coast guard and Maritime Authority shall commence the search for the remaining eight tomorrow.
Six people who were rescued have been admitted at Osano community hospital where they are receiving treatment as Homabay County Referral Hospital doctors are still on strike.
Those who lost their lives were taken to Homabay Referral hospital Mortuary.
