Two people have reportedly died and several others injured after four vehicles crashed in Migori County on Wednesday.

The accident happened after a lorry which was carrying sand rammed into three other vehicles in Kakrao area.

Migori County Police Boss Mark Wanjala says that one person dies on the spot while another one died on the way to the hospital.

According to Wanjala 11 other people are admitted in hospitals in critical condition.

“We have lost one while others are in hospital. We have rushed the injured to the hospital,” said Wanjala.

Suna West sub-county police commander Elizabeth Wakuloba said they are still compiling data from nearby hospitals over more fatalities.

“So far we have confirmed one death at Migori Referral Hospital. We are at the site and police have launched investigations,” Wakuloba told journalists in Migori.

She said they are also compiling data from other health facilities. Some of the vehicles that were involved in the accident include a double cabin and two cars.

Residents had to dig into the sand in their bid to rescue some of the people who had been hurt in the accident.

The accident happened in the morning at about 7 am when the speeding lorry rammed into parked motorbikes and vehicles.
