Two families in Kibera’s Lindi area have been thrown into mourning after their kin were swept away by floods.
34 year old Evans Juma Gowi went missing on 27th November only for his body to be found at City Mortuary on 1st December.
According to his mother Phoebe Adhiambo Gowi, witnesses told her that her son had tried crossing the flooded river when he was overpowered by the water.
“I was told that he tried crossing the river on his way home, we searched for him from 27th till 1st when we found his body at City Mortuary.” She said
According to area social worker, Humphrey Lando, three days after Evans’ body was discovered, another person was also swept by the floods though the victim’s details remain scanty.
Lando is now calling on residents who live along the river banks to honor the notice given for them to vacate the area.
Evans will be buried in Karachuonyo, Homa Bay county later this week.
