Two suspected armed gangs were on Wednesday morning shot dead by police officer who were on a foot patrol around Maseno Township, Kisumu County.
Three other escaped after they tried to confront the police officers with Pangas and knives at around 3 am in the morning.
Kisumu West Sub County Police Commander Henry Wesonga says that they have beefed-up police patrols around Maseno following an outcry by the students over armed thugs who have been terrorizing them.
“It is unfortunate that today morning a group of five thugs armed with pangas and Knives confronted our officers who were on foot patrol. The officers acted, where two were shot dead, and three ran. We have beefed up our patrols following an outcry by the university students over thugs who are terrorizing and stealing from them,” says Wesonga.
Wesonga says that most of Maseno University students complained of their houses being broken into and their valuables being taken.
“In most occasions, some students have been robbed their valuables by such like groups and whoever resists their attempt has been seriously assaulted,” added Wesonga
Maseno University Students chairman Franklin Omollo had last week issued a five day moratorium to the government and the varsity administration to solve insecurity issues within Maseno.
“It is time we sat down and sorted out this kind of monkey business once and for all. We cannot be butchered every other time. Those stealing and butchering us are well known,” said Omollo.
“We are going to demand for our rights and we are not going to relent on this war, if it is a matter of looking for social movements to cater for our well fare then we are ready.”
