UASU cautions KU against looming restructuring
University of Academic Staff Union Kenyatta University branch has now warned KU management against looming restructuring saying the institution has not involved them.
Speaking to the media UASU KU Chapter Secretary George Lukoye says the management has refused to engage them over the same despite several attempts to reach them.
They say no worker shall be retrenched in the planned restructure until they are involved.
“Whereas we appreciate any reforms that may help restore the universities to good financial footing, we wish to note that we shall revisit any reform that may affect staff negatively like retrenchment. We shall not allow any KU staff member to be a sacrificial lamb because of the financial mismanagement at the university,” he said.
International Monetary Fund flagged KU as one of the universities in the country in financial crisis a move that triggered its management to embark on restructuring process.
The branch has however, stated that the financial mismanagement at KU did not start recently adding that many regimes overlooked the matter.
“We have written letters to relevant anti-graft institution to conduct thorough investigations and audit but no action has been taken and as union we are aware that the misappropriation of funds at KU started back in the year 2002,” they added.
