The government of Uganda has vowed to block all pornorgraphic sites in a bid to shield children and teenagers from sexual predators and inappropriate information.

Uganda’s communication minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi says that the move will also shield the children from sexual predators.

Mr. Baryomunsi’s remarks were made just after Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa had asked the government to to regulate sites where children can watch adult content.

“Our children are exposed to cartoons of violence, our teens are exposed to pornography. In Muslim countries, pornography is blocked. Tell me how much we can lose as an economy if we blocked pornography sites in the country. Pornography is killing us,” said Tayebwa.

Pornographic control committee

According to Tayebwa, pornography sites comprise businesses that distribute erotic and sexually explicit content through the internet.

In 2017, the Ugandan government formed a “pornographic control committee” charged with the responsibility of detecting and prohibiting pornographic material within the country’s borders.

This committee even went as far as spending Ksh.12 million to acquire a “special machine” that could supposedly detect all pornographic content in Uganda.
