Uhuru Receives FIFA World Cup Trophy
President Uhuru Kenyatta received the FIFA World Cup trophy at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday.
In attendance also was Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohamed, CS for Trade Betty Maina and Najib Balala of Tourism.
President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed gratitude for considering as one of the 51 countries where the trophy was making a stop.
“It is an honour to be part of the 51 countries and territories that are part of this global tour. It is my hope that this will be an inspiration to our nation and children to dare dream of achieving the highest success in their chosen endeavours,” said Uhuru.
Uhuru expressed hope that Kenya will one day play and even win the world Cup trophy.
“We as a government are committed to make requisite public investments which we are hopeful that one day will make it a reality that our cherise=hed national aspiration of qualifying for and hopefully winning one day are achieved,” he said.
“It is in deed my hope that this occassion will be an insppiration and most importantly tp our children to dare dream success in their chosen endeavours.”
The 18-carat gold trophy landed in Kenya today accompanied by legendary Brazilian footballer Juliano Belleti, a World Cup-winning defender who also had the honor of handing it directly to the Head of State, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The 18-carat gold FIFA World Cup is on a two-day tour of Kenya ahead of this year’s World Cup that is scheduled to take place in Qatar.
This will be marked as the third time the FIFA World cup trophy has come to Kenya.
The FIFA World Cup trophy landed on Kenyan soil on Thursday 26th and is set to be on display at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for public viewing and photo session on Friday the 27th of May 26, 2022 which will mark the end of its stay in the country.
Also present were Nairobi county sitting Governor Anne Kananu and the top brass officials of Coca Cola including the Coca-Cola vice president for East and Central African franchise, Debrah Mallowah who said they were happy to take part in receiving the trophy.
“As a country, we are delighted to receive the original trophy and am asking the fans to turn up in large numbers for the public viewing and take pictures,” said Deborah.
They also urged Kenyans to indulge in Coca cola promotion games to stand a chance to win tickets to Qatar for the World Cup.
