Ulinzi Starlets’ coach, Collins Ochieng, is focusing on securing a victory in their final Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) match against Kisumu All Starlets this Sunday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

This goal remains strong even as the team faces an uphill battle for the league title. Ulinzi Starlets are currently in second place with 41 points, trailing Kenya Police Bullets by two points.

Their chances of winning the championship depend on both winning their upcoming game and hoping that Kenya Police Bullets lose their match against Trinity Starlets at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Preparation and Respect for Opponent

Coach Ochieng has been rallying fans to attend the crucial final game in large numbers, emphasizing the team’s thorough preparation. He stated that the team has undergone intense training sessions to ensure they finish the season on a high note.

Ochieng clarified that there is no pressure on his team to clinch the title, but if it happens, it would be a welcome bonus. He also showed respect for their upcoming opponents, Kisumu All Starlets, despite their position at the bottom of the league table.

“We have had intensive training for our last fixture, and what we are looking for is a win. We are not under pressure to clinch the title, but if it happens, then it will be an added advantage. I can say that Kisumu is a good team despite sitting at the bottom of the league, and we will give them the maximum respect they deserve,” Ochieng commented.

Ulinzi Starlets are coming into this match after a 1-0 victory over Desert Scorpions in the FKF Women’s Cup Round of 16 last weekend. This cup match provided valuable insights for Coach Ochieng, helping him identify and address weaknesses within his team, particularly in their attacking and defensive areas.

He expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming game, noting the absence of any injury concerns.

“When we were playing Desert Scorpion, I noted some mistakes, more so in our striking and defense department, but I have worked on them, and we are good to go on Sunday. I thank God that I have no injury doubts, and that will give me adequate time to win the fixture,” Ochieng added.

Other Key Matches and League Standing

As the KWPL season draws to a close, several other important matches are scheduled. Kisped will face four-time champions Vihiga Queens at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Kibera Soccer Women will play Mombasa Olympic at Marist International University, and Bunyore Starlets will complete their fixture against Bungoma Queens at Mumboha Grounds.

These matches will determine the final standings for many teams across the league. The focus remains on Ulinzi Starlets’ pursuit of a strong finish and the slim possibility of securing the league title, dependent on both their own performance and the outcome of the Kenya Police Bullets’ match.

The league season has been competitive, and the final round of games promises to bring exciting conclusions for all involved.
