The Kenya National U-18 Boys team, Junior Stars, today on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 clinched their spot in the CECAFA U18 Championship final on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, following a victory against Tanzania, prevailing 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
The match ended 0-0 after regulation time forcing it into extra time, however, both teams couldn’t break the deadlock leading to a penalty shootout.
Kenya’s Ibrahim Wanzala saved two crucial penalties allowing Sephas Owuor the chance to take the last and match winning penalty.
In the earlier semifinal, Uganda secured a 1-0 win over Rwanda, with Abubakar Mayanja’s 54th-minute goal proving to be the deciding factor.
Kenya will face Uganda in the final on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Jomo Kenyatta Mamboleo Stadium.
Elsewhere the Women’s National team Harambee Starlets were eliminated in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
This follows the 1-0 loss to Botswana in the second leg played on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Botswana National Stadium. Previously, they drew 1-1 with Botswana back at home. This seals the aggregate at 2-1.
Consequently, Kenya will miss out on gracing the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to be played in Morocco, for the second time ever.
